Mission Statement

Peace Garden

The Peace Garden
Pinner Memorial Park

A warm welcome to our venture into space.

The Trust was launched in 1985 and it has been most gratifying to witness how the importance of our Heritage continues to grow in the psyche of us all.

Our objectives are to encourage today's artists and architects of both landscape and buildings to create the Heritage of the future, whilst protecting the Heritage of the past.

We look forward to your support in this mission.

Martin Verden
Chairman

The Heritage Grant Fund

About four years ago, Gordon Swindles B Sc FRICS offered to act, on a temporary basis only, as Chairman of the Harrow Heritage Trust Fund. He has done a really excellent job supported by 3 volunteer professionals. We now owe it to him to find a new chairman though, of course, we are loath to see him go!

This grant scheme encourages owners to repair and restore their buildings which are of historical, architectural or public interest. Proposed works should be carried out in such a manner as to maintain the character of the building.

The Trust also grants aid to projects which aim to improve the natural environment and habitat.

Examples of previous restoration & repair work include:-

• Great Stanmore Old Church.
• The Vaughan Library.
• Lake at Canons Drive.
• Gates at Canons Drive.
• Handel’s organ, St. Lawrence Church, Stanmore.
• Bernays Memorial Institute, Stanmore.

We calculate that, as a result of the grants made over the last 20 years or so, which are by the way of seed corn, a total of approximately £3,000,000 worth of repairs to both private and public buildings has been achieved.

As can be judged, this is an exceeding valuable contribution to the Borough of Harrow. I earnestly hope that a volunteer will come forward shortly who is willing to act as chairman of this important activity.

Thank you.
